Prenatal vitamin advice in the US is simpler than the store shelves suggest. This course shows you what US public-health guidance says at each stage of pregnancy: 400 mcg of folic acid every day, why iodine is the nutrient many prenatal vitamins leave out, how much vitamin D you need, what to avoid, and what changes after your baby is born.
You will learn how to keep vitamins down when you feel sick, take a higher prescribed dose correctly, check vitamin D and iodine on a Supplement Facts label without doubling up, and understand when extra iron is used. You will also cover omega-3 from low-mercury fish, calcium from food, planning for a vegan or restricted diet, products to avoid, and help with healthy food through WIC.
It is for anyone who is pregnant, especially if you have just found out, and for partners who want to help. Four practical tools, a supplement checklist, a daily tracker, a label checker and a WIC eligibility checker, help you get it right.
See at a glance which vitamins and minerals US guidance highlights at each stage, from a positive test to breastfeeding, and check where you are now.

Prenatal Vitamins and Supplements, 6 modules, completed October 6, 2026
The CDC advises 400 mcg of folic acid every day, and US experts advise 150 mcg of iodine in pregnancy. A prenatal vitamin is the simplest way to cover these, along with iron and some vitamin D. Check the label for iodine, and ask your OB-GYN or midwife which product suits you.
Start straight away. Try not to worry: most babies are born healthy. If a previous pregnancy was affected by a neural tube defect, or you have diabetes or take epilepsy medicine, talk to your doctor soon about the right dose.
Only if your provider advises them. Most prenatal vitamins already contain iron, and blood tests at your first prenatal visit and later in pregnancy check for anemia. Extra iron is not advised for everyone.
If you qualify for WIC, you get benefits for healthy foods, nutrition education and breastfeeding support. People on SNAP, Medicaid or TANF automatically meet the income rule. The course includes a quick eligibility checker that points you to the official WIC pages.
6 modules with 17 short lessons (about 2 hours in total) and 4 interactive tools, including the Pregnancy supplement checklist, Daily supplement tracker and Supplement label checker.
