About this course

Many women leave a GP appointment about perimenopause or menopause feeling they did not get their point across. Symptoms come and go, the worst days are easy to forget, and ten minutes passes quickly. This short, practical course helps you change that.

Over eight weeks you track your symptoms, sleep, mood, periods and how much they affect your life, then turn it all into a five-line summary. You learn, as education only, the options described in menopause guidance used by New Zealand doctors, so the words your GP uses feel familiar. Then you build a clear appointment script, choose your key questions and plan what happens after the appointment.

It is for women who think they may be in perimenopause or menopause, women who have had a disappointing appointment before, and anyone supporting them. It does not diagnose or recommend treatment: it helps you have a better conversation with the professionals who can.

Who this course is for

  • Women who think they may be in perimenopause or menopause and want to see their GP
  • Women who have seen a GP before and felt unheard, rushed or unsure what was agreed
  • Women already having treatment who want to track how it is going before a review
  • Partners, friends and family who want to help someone prepare

Check with a health professional first if

  • If you are under 45 and your periods have changed or stopped, see your GP now rather than waiting to track for eight weeks
  • If you have bleeding after your periods have stopped for 12 months, bleeding after sex or between periods, or very heavy bleeding, see your GP soon
  • If you have had breast, womb or ovarian cancer, a blood clot or stroke, or have a heart or liver condition, mention it early at your appointment
  • If you feel very low, hopeless or have thoughts of harming yourself, get help now (see When to get help) rather than waiting for a routine appointment
  • If you take any medicines, herbal products or supplements, check with your pharmacist before adding anything new
  • If you could be pregnant, speak to your GP or pharmacist, as you can still get pregnant during perimenopause

Questions about this course

Do I need to finish all eight weeks before seeing my GP?

No. Eight weeks gives the clearest picture, but if your symptoms are severe, you are under 45, or you notice any red-flag sign, book now and bring whatever you have tracked so far.

Will this course tell me if I am in perimenopause or menopause?

No. It helps you record your symptoms clearly and prepare for your appointment. Only your GP or another health professional can assess what is going on, including checking for other possible causes.

Does the course recommend MHT?

No. It explains, as education only, the options described in menopause guidance, including MHT (also called HRT), CBT and non-hormonal choices, so you can follow the conversation and ask good questions. Your GP will talk through what may suit you.

Can I use the tracker if I am already taking MHT or another treatment?

Yes. Many women use it to see how a treatment is going before a review. Do not change how you take any medicine based on your scores; take your tracker to your GP or pharmacist instead.

What do I get with this course?

5 modules with 14 short lessons (about 1 hour 10 minutes in total) and 5 interactive tools, including the 8-week menopause symptom tracker, GP appointment script and Questions to ask your GP, for a one-off NZ$24.99 (GST included). Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate of completion. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition.
