Self-care is often sold as candles and bubble baths, but much of it is quieter work: noticing when you are stretched too thin, and having the words to say so. In Te Whare Tapa Whā, wellbeing rests on four walls, and taha whānau, our connections with family and community, is one of them. Caring for others is a strength, and it lasts longer when your own needs are on the list too.
Boundaries are the limits that let you show up for the people and commitments that matter without running yourself down. They can feel hard to set, especially in close-knit whānau, at church or community events, or at work where saying no can feel risky. Our course approaches boundaries as respectful and two-way, so they protect relationships rather than push people away.
The course is written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition, and works through real situations with scripts you can adapt and a tracker that shows your confidence growing. It is general education, not counselling.

Learning to Set Boundaries starts by mapping where your time and energy go across work, home, whānau, friends, money and your own health. It then helps you choose one area to work on, gives you phrases for saying no or not yet, and helps you practise in low-stakes situations before the harder ones.

Some pushback is common at first, and the course includes ways to stay calm and repeat your point. If someone becomes threatening or controlling, that is not ordinary pushback, and support is listed above.
No. Looking after your own health and energy makes it easier to care for the people around you over the long term.
It takes about ten minutes, and it shows you exactly where to start.
