Around menopause, many women find their weight creeps up or settles around the middle, even when they feel nothing has changed. Falling oestrogen, gradual muscle loss, broken sleep, stress and busy lives all play a part. This course explains what is going on in plain English and shows you what you can do about it, without crash diets, kilojoule (calorie) targets or special products.
You will learn how to measure your waist and use BMI and waist-to-height ratio sensibly, build filling meals based on the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, include protein at every meal, look after your bones with calcium and vitamin D, and plan strength work and activity that meet Australia's physical activity guidelines. You will also look at sleep, hot flushes, stress and cravings, what Australian health advice says about MHT and weight, and how to keep going when progress stalls.
It is for women in perimenopause or after menopause who want to look after their weight and health in a realistic, kind way. If you have a condition such as diabetes or kidney disease, a very high BMI, a history of an eating disorder, or take weight-loss medicines, the course tells you when to check with your GP first.
Understand why weight and body shape often change in your 40s and 50s, set a realistic health goal, and check whether you should talk to your GP before you start.

No. It does not set kilojoule (calorie) targets. It shows you how to build filling, balanced meals based on the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, include protein and fibre, and cut back on extras in a way you can keep up. If you need a structured plan, your GP can tell you about local support, such as Medicare-subsidised visits to an Accredited Practising Dietitian if you have a chronic condition.
No course can target fat from one part of the body. The course explains why fat tends to move to the middle after menopause and how eating well, strength work and activity help your health overall. Your waist measurement is a useful way to track change.
MHT is not a weight-loss treatment, and menopause experts say there is no good evidence it causes weight gain. Whether MHT is right for you depends on your symptoms, health and preferences. The course helps you prepare for that conversation with your GP, but does not advise on starting or stopping any medicine.
Yes, the course can support healthy eating, protein and strength habits alongside treatment. Please keep all questions about the medicine, its dose and side effects for your prescriber or pharmacist.
