About this course

Losing weight is hard work. Keeping it off is a different challenge, and many weight-loss plans stop just when it begins. After weight loss, your body needs a little less energy and your appetite can rise, so drifting back to old habits often brings the weight back.

This course is for adults who have lost weight, whether with a weight-loss group, an app, your GP or on their own, and want to keep it off. You will learn what happens in your body after weight loss, estimate your maintenance energy, set a settling range and a comeback point, and build filling, flexible meals and everyday activity that fit real life. You will also learn to read your weekly trend, plan for holidays, celebrations and stressful weeks, and stop a slip turning into a relapse.

Practical tools include a maintenance energy calculator with safety checks, a weekly check-in tracker, a high-risk situations planner, printable anchor habit cards and your own relapse recovery plan. The course follows Australian guidelines, including the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and Australia's physical activity guidelines. It does not promise any particular result.

Questions about this course

Will this course stop me regaining weight?

No course can promise that, because bodies, health and circumstances differ. This course teaches the habits that Australian guidelines and research link with keeping weight steady, and gives you tools to spot regain early and act on it.

Do I have to count kilojoules forever?

No. The maintenance calculator gives a rough starting point if it is suitable for you. Many people find that, after a few weeks of checking in, they can keep their weight steady with habits such as balanced plates, regular meals and staying active, without counting.

I have stopped a weight-loss injection. Is this course for me?

The everyday habits in this course can support you, but please follow the advice of your prescriber or pharmacist about stopping and what to expect. Do not stop, start or change any medicine on your own. The calculator is not designed for people on, or recently off, weight-loss medicines.

I have regained some weight already. Is it too late?

No. You can start at any point. Use the calculator if it is suitable for you, set your settling range from where you are now, and use your recovery plan. If you want to lose the regained weight, Australian advice favours slow, steady loss from habits you can keep up.

What do I get with this course?

6 modules with 18 short lessons (about 2 hours in total) and 5 interactive tools, including the Maintenance energy calculator, Weekly maintenance check-in and Relapse recovery plan, for a one-off A$27.99 (GST included). Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate of completion. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition.
