Eating chips at the cupboard after a hard day, finishing the biscuits when you are bored, a takeaway every time you feel low: emotional eating is common, and it can make weight loss feel impossible. It is not a lack of willpower. It is a habit your brain has learned because food brings quick relief.
This practical course helps you tell emotional hunger from physical hunger, find your own triggers with a daily journal, and break the restrict-overeat cycle with regular, balanced meals. You will learn urge surfing and the 10-minute pause, build a personal list of other ways to meet your needs, and recover from slips without guilt. Weight loss is approached the gradual way Australian health advice recommends, with no kilojoule targets and no crash diets.
It is for adults who often eat in response to stress, boredom, loneliness or tiredness and want a calmer relationship with food. It is not therapy and not a treatment for eating disorders. A short, private check at the start helps you decide whether to talk to your GP or the Butterfly helpline first.

Emotional Eating and Weight Loss, 7 modules, completed 6 October 2026
No. There are no kilojoule targets, banned foods or meal replacements. The course helps you understand and manage emotional eating, with regular balanced meals based on the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. If weight loss is your goal, it follows the gradual approach in Australian health advice.
Everyone is different, and this course does not promise any particular result. Many people find that managing emotional eating makes healthy weight loss easier, but the course also counts fewer episodes, regular meals and feeling calmer around food as real progress.
This course is not a treatment for eating disorders. Please talk to your GP, and contact the Butterfly helpline for confidential support. The support signposting check in Module 1 can help you decide what to do next. If you have had an eating disorder in the past, check with your GP or treatment team before starting.
The habits in the course may still be helpful, but check with your GP or pharmacist first. The course does not give any advice about weight-loss medicines, including dosing, side effects or stopping.
