About this course

Menopause affects every woman, yet many of us reach our forties knowing very little about it. Is this perimenopause? Is it normal to feel this anxious? Should I ask about MHT? What can I do myself? This course brings everything together in one place, based on Government of Canada information and current Canadian menopause guidance, in clear everyday language.

Across 10 modules you will learn the stages of menopause, the full range of symptoms, and which changes need a check by a doctor. You will explore hot flashes, sleep, mood and memory, your long-term bone, heart, bladder and intimate health, and the treatment options used in Canada, including menopausal hormone therapy (MHT, often called HRT) and alternatives, explained as education to help you talk with your family doctor. You will also cover eating well, staying active, menopause at work and relationships.

It is for anyone approaching or going through menopause, and for partners and family who want to understand. Practical tools, including a stage checker, an 8-week symptom tracker, a Doctor and MHT question list, an appointment summary sheet, a 4-week lifestyle plan and a support directory, help you turn knowledge into action.

Questions about this course

Will this course tell me whether I should take MHT?

No. The course explains what MHT is, the different types, and the benefits and risks described in current Canadian guidance, so you can have an informed conversation with your family doctor. Only a prescriber who knows your health history can advise whether a treatment is right for you.

I am only 42. Is this course for me?

Yes. Perimenopause can start in your early forties, and it helps to understand the changes before they happen. If your periods change or stop before 45, and especially before 40, please see your family doctor as well.

Do I need a blood test to know if I am in perimenopause?

Usually not if you are 45 or over. Family doctors and nurse practitioners can usually recognize perimenopause and menopause from your symptoms and periods. Blood tests may be used for people under 45. The course explains this in Module 1.

Is there a special diet that treats menopause symptoms?

No food or diet has been shown to treat menopause symptoms, and Canadian rules do not allow foods to be sold with claims like this. The course shows you how to use Canada's Food Guide to support your bones, heart and energy, and how to spot misleading claims.

What do I get with this course?

10 modules with 28 short lessons (about 4 hours 30 minutes in total) and 7 interactive tools, including the Menopause stage checker, Menopause symptom tracker and Doctor and MHT question list. Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition. Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
