Most people know roughly what healthy eating looks like. The hard part is doing it on a busy Tuesday night, when you are tired, hungry and the fridge is empty. This course is about the practical side of weight loss: planning meals that fill you up, having the right food in the house, and making the healthy choice the easy one.
You will start by checking that this approach is right for you and learning why steady weight loss of about 0.5 to 1kg a week is the safe, realistic pace (Irish advertising rules treat more than 1kg a week as not good practice). Then you will build balanced plates from the Food Pyramid, learn simple portion guides, plan a realistic 7-day week, write a focused shopping list, batch cook safely, and handle snacks, drinks, takeaways and social occasions. Finally, you will learn to review your plan each week, cope with setbacks and keep your new habits going.
It is for adults who want to lose weight gradually without crash diets, special products or counting every calorie. A calorie-aware 7-day planner, a portion plate template, a shopping list, a batch-cook plan and a snack swap list help you put each step into practice. There is no personal calorie target and no promise of a set amount of weight loss.
Check this approach is right for you, understand what national guidance says about steady weight loss, and set goals you can actually work towards.

Nobody can honestly promise a set amount. Everyone's body is different. The course explains the gradual, steady rate that Irish health advice describes as safe and realistic for most adults who need to lose weight. Fast weight loss is not good practice. Some weeks may show no change at all.
No. The course shows you how to plan balanced, filling meals using the plate model and portion guides. The 7-day planner has an optional space for calories from labels if you find that helpful, but it does not set you a personal target.
Talk to your prescriber or pharmacist first. The course can help you plan balanced meals alongside treatment, but it does not give advice on medicines and does not replace their guidance.
No. This course is for adults only. If you are worried about a child's or teenager's weight or eating, talk to your GP or public health nurse. Our family courses cover healthy eating for children.
