About this course

Menopause brings real changes to your body, and the internet is full of diets, supplements and promises that claim to fix them. This course cuts through the noise. It shows you how to eat well through perimenopause, menopause and the years after, using UK guidance from the NHS, NICE and the Eatwell Guide, without fads, expensive products or strict rules.

Across nine modules you will build a balanced menopause plate, get enough protein, fibre, calcium and vitamin D, look after your heart, manage weight and energy in a steady way, and find out how food and drink relate to hot flushes, sleep and mood. You will learn to shop and read labels quickly, plan a week of meals, and prepare for a useful conversation with your GP.

It is for women in their 40s, 50s and 60s, and anyone supporting them. Eight practical tools, including a symptom and food diary, a plate guide, a 7-day meal planner, a calcium checker, a GP prep sheet and a 90-day plan, help you put it all into practice.

Questions about this course

Is there a special diet that treats menopause symptoms?

No. No diet or food has been shown to treat menopause symptoms in the way that medical treatments can. This course shows you how to eat well for your bones, heart, weight and energy, and how to spot your own possible triggers for hot flushes. If symptoms are affecting your life, talk to your GP about your options.

Will this course help me lose weight?

It shows you a steady, realistic approach to managing your weight in midlife, based on NHS guidance, such as regular balanced meals, protein, fibre, strength activity and better sleep. It does not promise a set amount of weight loss. If your BMI is 40 or more, or you have diabetes or another condition, see your GP first.

Does this course cover HRT?

This course is about nutrition. It explains that HRT and other treatments are options to discuss with your GP and helps you prepare for that conversation, but it does not advise you to start, stop or change any treatment.

Do I need to take supplements?

For most women, the only supplement the NHS advises is vitamin D, 10 micrograms a day in autumn and winter, or all year if you are at higher risk. Most other nutrients can come from a balanced diet. Check with your GP or pharmacist before taking anything else.

What do I get with this course?

9 modules with 27 short lessons (about 4 hours 30 minutes in total) and 8 interactive tools, including the Symptom and food diary, Menopause plate guide and 7-day menopause meal planner. Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition.
