About this course

Most people know roughly what healthy eating looks like. The hard part is doing it on a busy Tuesday night, when you are tired, hungry and the fridge is empty. This course is about the practical side of weight loss: planning meals that fill you up, having the right food in the house, and making the healthy choice the easy one.

You will start by checking that this approach is right for you and learning why Australian health advice favours slow, steady weight loss over crash diets. Then you will build balanced plates from the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, learn simple portion guides, plan a realistic 7-day week, write a focused shopping list, batch cook safely, and handle snacks, drinks, takeaways and social occasions. Finally, you will learn to review your plan each week, cope with setbacks and keep your new habits going.

It is for adults who want to lose weight gradually without crash diets, special products or counting every kilojoule. A kilojoule-aware 7-day planner, a portion plate template, a shopping list, a batch-cook plan and a snack swap list help you put each step into practice. There is no personal kilojoule target and no promise of a set amount of weight loss.

Questions about this course

How much weight will I lose?

Nobody can honestly promise a set amount. Everyone's body is different. Australian health advice favours slow, steady weight loss through changes you can keep up, and some weeks may show no change at all.

Do I have to count kilojoules?

No. The course shows you how to plan balanced, filling meals using the plate model and portion guides. The 7-day planner has an optional space for kilojoules from labels if you find that helpful, but it does not set you a personal target.

Can I use this course if I am taking a weight-loss injection?

Talk to your prescriber or pharmacist first. The course can help you plan balanced meals alongside treatment, but it does not give advice on medicines and does not replace their guidance.

Is this course suitable for my teenager?

No. This course is for adults only. If you are worried about a child's or teenager's weight or eating, talk to your GP or school nurse. Our family courses cover healthy eating for children.

What do I get with this course?

6 modules with 18 short lessons (about 2 hours in total) and 5 interactive tools, including the Kilojoule-aware 7-day meal planner, Portion plate template and Weight-loss friendly shopping list, for a one-off A$32.99 (GST included). Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate of completion. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition.
