About this course

The months before pregnancy are a chance to give yourself and a future baby the best start. This course brings together Health Canada and other Canadian guidance on folic acid and vitamins, healthy eating, weight and activity, alcohol, smoking and caffeine, vaccinations, medicines, fertility basics and wellbeing, and turns it into a clear 12-week plan.

You will work through nine modules with practical examples, quizzes and five tools: a pre-pregnancy checklist, a supplement checklist, a pre-conception appointment prep sheet, a daily lifestyle tracker and a 12-week preparation planner. Everything saves to your account and exports to PDF.

It is for anyone planning a pregnancy in the next year, and their partners. It is general education, not medical or fertility advice. If you have a health condition, take regular medicines, or have had problems in a previous pregnancy, the course shows you what to discuss with your family doctor first.

Questions about this course

How far ahead should I start preparing for pregnancy?

Around three months is a useful window, but start a multivitamin with folic acid as soon as you might become pregnant. The course includes a 12-week planner you can adapt to your own timeline.

Will this course help me get pregnant faster?

No course can promise that. This course explains the national guidance on preparing for pregnancy and helps you build healthy habits. If you are concerned about fertility, the course explains when to see your family doctor.

Do I need to see my doctor before trying for a baby?

It is not required for everyone, but it is a good idea, and important if you have a long-term condition, take regular medicines, have a BMI of 30 or over or have had previous pregnancy complications. The prep sheet helps you get the most from the appointment with your family doctor or nurse practitioner.

I'm already pregnant. Is this course right for me?

Contact your midwife first. Some content will still be useful, but a pregnancy-focused course and your midwife's advice will suit you better.

What do I get with this course?

9 modules with 22 short lessons (about 4 hours in total) and 5 interactive tools, including the Pre-pregnancy checklist, Supplement checklist (folic acid and vitamin D) and Pre-conception appointment prep sheet. Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition. Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
