About this course

Caring for a spouse, parent, child or friend can be full of love, and also exhausting. This course helps you understand where your stress comes from, spot the warning signs early and use quick, realistic ways to calm things down on a busy caregiving day.

You will learn how to find caregiver support through your provincial or territorial home care program and community services, where money and practical help may come from (including federal EI caregiving benefits), how to build a support map, and how to plan breaks that actually happen. You will finish with a one-page self-care plan covering food, sleep, movement, boundaries and who to call if things get worse.

It is for adult family caregivers in Canada, whether you care full-time, alongside a job, or from a distance. It is general education and signposting, not therapy or medical advice.

Questions about this course

Do I count as a caregiver if I only help a few hours a week?

Yes. If you regularly help someone who could not manage without you, you are a family caregiver, whatever the hours. You can ask the home care program and community organizations about caregiver support however much care you give.

Will this course tell me which benefits I can claim?

It explains the main supports to look into, such as EI caregiving benefits, caregiver tax credits and provincial home care, but it does not give benefits or tax advice. Rules change and some differ by province, so we show you where to get current, personal answers.

Is this course therapy?

No. It is practical education about stress, support and self-care for caregivers. If you are struggling with your mental health, please talk to your family doctor or nurse practitioner. The course shows you which services can help and when.

Does it work wherever I live in Canada?

Yes. The course is written for caregivers across Canada. Home care, health lines and employment standards are run by each province and territory, so the course explains the common ground and tells you what to check locally.

What do I get with this course?

6 modules with 18 short lessons (about 2 hours in total) and 6 interactive tools, including the Caregiver stress tracker, Respite and breaks planner and My support map. Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition. Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
