Screens are part of family life: for school, for keeping in touch, for fun and, sometimes, for a quiet half hour. The hard part is knowing how much is too much, which rules are worth having and how to stick to them without daily arguments. This course explains what Irish and international guidance actually says, from the HSE and Every Move Counts to the World Health Organization advice for under-5s, and turns it into a plan that fits your family.
You will audit how screens are used in your home now, agree a family media agreement together, build a list of screen-free activities your children will actually enjoy, and track four weeks of change. You will also look at how screens affect sleep, eating and activity, what changes by age from toddlers to teens, and the basics of online safety.
It is for parents and carers of children from toddlers to teenagers anywhere in Ireland. It is practical and non-judgemental: the aim is balance, not banning screens.
Clear up the confusion: what official advice used in Ireland says about screens for under-5s, school-age children and teenagers, and why the focus is on what screens replace.

For 2 to 4-year-olds, WHO guidance suggests no more than about an hour a day, and for under-2s no screen time apart from shared activities like video calls. For older children there is no official number; advice in Ireland focuses on protecting sleep, meals, active play and time together. This course helps you set limits that fit your family.
