Returning to Work While Breastfeeding, 6 modules, completed 6 October 2026
No. Many parents carry on, by expressing at work, feeding around their working hours, or mixing breast milk and formula. New Zealand guidance recommends breastfeeding alongside first foods until 2 years or beyond, for as long as you and your baby want, so any breast milk still counts.
New Zealand employment law expects employers to provide appropriate breaks and facilities for an employee who wishes to breastfeed or express at work, as far as is reasonable and practicable. A toilet is not a suitable place to express. The course explains this in plain English and helps you make a request; it is not legal advice.
As a general guide used in New Zealand, up to 2 days in a fridge at 4°C or lower, at the back where it is coldest. Shared office fridges are often warmer, so check the temperature or use a cooler bag with ice packs, and put the milk in your fridge at home as soon as you get back.
Less than you might think. Most parents express today for tomorrow, so a stash of about a day or two of feeds plus a few small emergency bags is usually plenty. The freezer stash planner helps you build it gently.
