When parents separate, children need two things above all: to feel loved by both parents and to be kept out of the adults' conflict. This course gives you practical, step-by-step ways to do that, whether your separation is recent or years ago, and whether things with your ex are friendly or difficult.
You will learn how to tell your children, how to communicate with your co-parent in a calm, business-like way, how parenting arrangements and child support work in Australia, and how to make handovers, school and school holidays run smoothly. You will build a written co-parenting plan, a shared calendar and a set of ready-to-use scripts.
The course also covers looking after yourself, spotting when a child needs extra help, and what to do when co-parenting is not safe, with confidential family and domestic violence support available right across Australia. It is general education, not legal advice.
Understand how separation can feel for children at different ages, and the few things that make the biggest difference to how they cope.

For advice on your own situation, speak to a family lawyer, your state or territory Legal Aid commission or a community legal centre.
Yes. Module 3 covers parallel parenting, written-only communication and handovers that avoid face-to-face contact, and the scripts are designed for difficult conversations. If you feel afraid rather than just frustrated, Module 7 and the safety check will point you to confidential help.
Yes. Family law for parenting arrangements is national, so the main process is the same everywhere. Western Australia has its own Family Court, and some services, such as protection orders, child protection and parenting helplines, are run by each state and territory, so the course points you to where to find your local service.
