Mealtimes with a fussy eater can be exhausting. This course gives you a calm, step-by-step plan, based on New Zealand healthy eating advice for babies, toddlers and children and widely used approaches from feeding specialists, to help your child feel safe around new foods and slowly widen what they eat.
You will learn why fussy eating happens, how to set up relaxed mealtimes, how to serve food so it feels manageable, and how to use repeated exposure, food bridges and the new-food ladder. You will also learn words that help, and what to do when your child refuses.
It is for parents, grandparents and other whānau who care for children aged about 1 to 10. You will use a food exposure tracker, a new-food ladder, printable mealtime rules cards, a praise phrases list and a 7-day plan, all saved to your account.
Why so many children go through a fussy phase, how to tell everyday fussiness from a feeding problem, and the simple split of jobs that takes the fight out of mealtimes.

Fussy Eating Strategies, 6 modules, completed 6 October 2026
It is written for parents and carers of children aged about 1 to 10. If your baby is under 12 months and just starting solids, follow the Healthy Eating Guidelines for New Zealand Babies and Toddlers and your Plunket nurse's advice first.
Every child moves at their own pace, so we cannot promise a particular result. What the course gives you is a calm, consistent approach that helps most children slowly feel safer with new foods. Many families notice calmer mealtimes first, then more willingness to try.
Adding grated or blended vegetables to family meals is fine and adds nutrients. Also serve vegetables openly, so your child can learn to recognise and accept them over time.
It can help, but a very small or shrinking range of foods, weight loss, frequent gagging or severe distress are reasons to talk to your GP or Plunket nurse first. You can use the calm approach in this course while you wait for advice.
6 modules with 18 short lessons (about 2 hours in total) and 5 interactive tools, including the Food exposure tracker, New-food ladder and Mealtime rules cards, for a one-off NZ$29.99 (GST included). Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate of completion. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition.
