About this course

Feeding a family is a daily juggle: different ages, different tastes, busy evenings and a grocery bill that keeps creeping up. This course gives you a simple system for planning a week of meals that work for everyone at the table, from toddlers to teenagers to grown-ups, based on New Zealand's Eating and Activity Guidelines and Ministry of Health advice for babies, toddlers and children.

You will build your own weekly meal plan, learn how to cook one meal and adapt it for different ages, turn your plan into a shopping list, run a batch-cook session safely and track what you spend. Every module comes with a ready-to-use tool that saves to your account and prints as a PDF.

It is for parents, carers, grandparents and anyone cooking for a household with tamariki. You do not need to be a confident cook. You just need 20 minutes a week to plan and a willingness to try a few new habits.

Questions about this course

Do I need to be a good cook to do this course?

No. The course is built around simple family meals, pantry staples and easy batch recipes. If you can make pasta and a basic sauce, you can follow it.

My children are all different ages. Will one meal really work?

For most families, yes. Module 3 shows you how to cook one base meal and adapt it at the end for toddlers, fussy eaters, teenagers and adults, with printable cards for common family meals.

Is this course suitable if my child has a food allergy?

It includes practical tips for planning around allergies, but it does not replace the advice of your child's GP, allergy clinic or dietitian. Always follow their plan and your child's allergy action plan.

Will this help us spend less on food?

Many families find planning, shopping from a list and cutting waste lowers their food bill, but results depend on your circumstances. The budget tracker and cost-per-meal calculator help you see where your money goes.

What do I get with this course?

6 modules with 18 short lessons (about 2 hours in total) and 6 interactive tools, including the Family Meal Planner, One-Meal-for-All Adaptation Guide and Family Shopping List (by aisle), for a one-off NZ$29.99 (GST included). Your tool results save to My Progress. A 10-question final check ends the course; score 7 or more for your certificate of completion. Written by Dr Aqsa Mukhtiar, PhD in Nutrition.
