About this course

Packing a lunchbox every school day is a small job that adds up to a big part of your child's diet. This course shows you how to build balanced lunches using the four food groups in New Zealand's healthy eating guidelines, pack the right amount for your child's age and cut back on sugar and salt without a battle.

You will learn why food comes home uneaten and how to fix it, discover ideas beyond the sandwich, choose better drinks and morning tea snacks, and read labels in seconds using the Health Star Rating and the Nutrition Information Panel. We also cover keeping lunches cold and safe, choking safety for younger children, allergies at school and how school food works in New Zealand, including Ka Ora, Ka Ako school lunches.

By the end you will have a 4-week lunchbox plan, a shopping list and a simple prep routine, built with the interactive lunchbox builder, planner and checklist. The course is for parents, carers and whānau of school-age children (about 5 to 17, from new entrants to Year 13) and is written in plain, practical language.
