Healthy eating does not have to cost more. Many of the foods at the heart of Ireland's Food Pyramid, such as oats, beans, lentils, eggs, potatoes and frozen vegetables, are among the cheapest in the shop. This course shows you how to build a balanced diet around them.
You will learn to plan a week of meals around your budget, work out the cost of each meal, shop smarter with lists and unit prices, get enough protein for less, and batch cook and freeze food safely. We also cover cutting food waste, feeding children on a budget, and the help available in Ireland, including Hot School Meals, social welfare supports and free money advice.
Interactive tools include a weekly budget meal planner, a cost-per-meal calculator, a budget shopping list, a cheap protein list, a freezer and batch plan and a food support checker that points you to the right Irish services. The course is for anyone wanting to eat better for less: individuals, couples, families, students and older adults.
See why a healthy diet does not have to cost more, find out where your food money really goes, and learn the cheapest ways to fill each shelf of the Food Pyramid.

Prices are examples only, because they change often and vary between shops. The course teaches you how to work out costs yourself, with the cost-per-meal calculator.
This course is about eating healthily for less, not weight loss. Cooking more meals at home and eating more vegetables, pulses and wholegrains are part of a healthy diet. If weight is a concern, speak to your GP.
