Everyone gets angry. The trouble starts when anger comes too often, too strongly, or in ways that hurt you or the people around you. This practical self-help course shows you how anger works, what sets yours off, and how to step in before it boils over.
You will keep an anger log, learn your personal early warning signs, practise quick calming skills, write a time-out plan you can actually use, and learn to say what you need with calm 'I' statements. You will also look at the everyday things that shorten your fuse, such as poor sleep, hunger, alcohol and stress, and where to get support in the UK.
It is for adults who want to handle everyday anger better at home, at work, on the road or with their children. It is self-help education, not treatment. If you have hurt or frightened a partner or family member, the course points you to specialist help, including the Respect Phoneline.
Learn what anger is, why it is a normal emotion, and how to tell the difference between anger that helps and anger that causes harm.

Managing Anger Constructively, 6 modules, completed 6 October 2026
No. This is a self-help education course to help you understand and manage everyday anger. It is not a formal anger management programme or a domestic abuse perpetrator programme, and the certificate shows that you completed the learning, not that you have been assessed. If you need a formal programme, ask your GP, employer or the organisation requesting it which programmes they accept.
This course alone is not the right help. Hurting, threatening or controlling a partner is domestic abuse, which needs specialist support. Please call the Respect Phoneline on 0808 802 4040 for free, confidential advice about changing your behaviour. You can still use the calming skills here alongside that support.
No, and it shouldn't. Anger is a normal emotion. The course helps you notice anger earlier, calm down faster and respond in ways you won't regret. Most people find it takes several weeks of practice to see a difference.
The skills here are general and may be useful, but please talk to your GP or the professional who supports you, as they can advise what fits with your care. If you feel low, anxious or unable to cope, or think about harming yourself, use the support in the 'When to get help' section.
6 modules with 16 short lessons (about 2 hours in total) and 4 interactive tools, including the Anger log, Early warning signs checker and Time-out plan. Your tool results save to My Progress.
