Course guide

Most people who search for a nutrition course are not trying to become a nutritionist. They want to eat better, feed a baby, get through menopause or look after a parent. This guide matches the goal you actually have to the course that fits it, so you buy once and buy right.

75 courses compared Based on NHS and UK guidance Free 60-second course finder

The short answer

Pick the course that matches the one change you want to make in the next month, not the biggest course in the topic. If you are new to healthy eating, start with Understanding the Eatwell Guide (£9.99, about an hour). If you have a specific life stage, such as pregnancy, weaning or menopause, go to that topic and start with its Foundation or Focused course. Choose a Premium course only when you want the whole area covered in one place.

Step 1 · Your area

Step 2 · Your goal

Prices are for the UK edition and include any VAT that applies. You pay once per course and keep access.

First: are you learning for yourself, or for a career?

This one question saves more money than any other. Search for "nutrition course" in the UK and most of the results are university degrees, diplomas and accredited professional training. Those are built for people who want to work in nutrition, and they are priced and timed for that: weeks or years of study, coursework and exams.

If your goal is a career, look for programmes accredited by the Association for Nutrition, which runs the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists. If you want to work as a dietitian, you need a degree approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. A short consumer course will not get you there, and it should never claim to.

If your goal is personal, the picture is different. You do not need biochemistry or exam essays. You need clear UK guidance, turned into something you can do this week, plus a way to keep going after the first few days. That is what MyNutriCare courses are for: short, self-paced lessons with trackers, planners and checklists built in, based on the same guidance your GP, midwife or health visitor uses.

When the free NHS pages are enough

If you want one fact, such as how many portions of fruit and veg to aim for or whether you can eat a particular cheese in pregnancy, the free NHS Eat well pages will answer it. A course is worth paying for when you want the facts put in order, applied to your week, and tracked until the habit sticks. If you only need the answer, you do not need a course.

Your five options, compared honestly

A paid course is only one way to learn about food and health. Before you choose any course, ours included, see where it sits against the alternatives. Each one is the right answer for someone.

Foundation, Focused or Premium: which level?

Every course sits at one of three levels. All three have at least five modules, a 10-question final check and a certificate when you pass. The difference is how much ground they cover.

Foundation

The essentials

About 1 hour · £9.99 to £12.99

One topic in plain words with a few core tools. Best when the topic is new to you or you want a quick, solid start.

Focused

One goal, in depth

About 2 hours · £12.99 to £17.99

A single problem worked through properly, with more examples and a full set of tools. Most people should start here.

Premium

The whole area

About 4 to 5 hours · £19.99 to £24.99

Everything in one life stage or topic, with the widest range of tools. Best when you want one course instead of three.

A simple rule: if you can name the exact problem ("my toddler only eats beige food", "I keep regaining weight"), pick the Focused course for that problem. If you are at the start of a whole new stage ("I've just found out I'm pregnant", "I think I'm perimenopausal"), the Premium course for that stage usually costs less than buying the smaller ones one by one.

Eating well, weight and fitness

For adults who want to eat better day to day, spend less on food, manage their weight or get stronger.

Everyday nutrition

Start with the Eatwell Guide course if you are not sure what a balanced plate looks like in practice. It is the base the other nutrition courses build on. If you already know the basics but struggle to put them into a real week, go straight to meal planning or the budget course.

CourseLevelTimePriceChoose it if you…

Gut Health and Digestive WellnessFocused2 hr 15 min£17.99want more fibre and plant variety, step by step, and to know which symptoms need a GP

Weight management

The six weight courses each solve a different problem, so pick by what usually goes wrong for you. If you have never understood why weight changes, start with energy balance. If you lose weight but it comes back, the regain course is the one to take. If eating is tied to stress or mood, the emotional eating course will help more than another meal plan.

Fitness

Strength Training Basics (Foundation, 1 hr 15 min, £12.99) is an 8-week home plan with exercise cards, a good-form checklist and a workout log. The UK Chief Medical Officers advise adults to do muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days a week, and this is the simplest way to start if you have never lifted anything heavier than the shopping.

Planning a baby and pregnancy

For anyone trying to conceive, newly pregnant or preparing for birth.

Before pregnancy, the most time-sensitive step is folic acid. The NHS advises taking it before you conceive and for the first 12 weeks, so the vitamins course is the one to take first if you are trying now, and our free checklist of things to sort before trying for a baby covers the rest. Once you are pregnant, decide between the Premium course and individual courses based on how much you want covered. If food safety worries you most, start with our free pregnancy foods to eat and avoid checklist; the food safety course alone may be all you need.

New baby and feeding

For the newborn months and the first year of feeding, whether by breast, bottle or both.

Pick the feeding course that matches how you feed now, not how you planned to. Many parents end up combination feeding, and that course exists because it is the method with the least clear guidance online. For the first weeks at home, First 6 Weeks With Baby covers feeds, nappies, sleep, your own recovery and the red flags to act on. When solids are on the horizon, our free guide to when to start weaning sets out the readiness signs.

Raising children

For parents of toddlers and school-age children, on food and on behaviour.

Food and behaviour often turn out to be the same problem at the table. If mealtimes are a battle, start with Fussy Eating Strategies. NHS guidance notes that toddlers' appetites vary from day to day, and the course shows you how to judge a week rather than a single plate. If the battles happen everywhere, not just at meals, the behaviour courses will help more.

If your child's eating worries you

Speak to your health visitor or GP if your child is losing weight, eats a very small range of foods that keeps shrinking, gags or vomits often at meals, or if you suspect an allergy. Courses help with everyday eating; they do not replace an assessment.

Menopause and midlife

The largest topic on the site, with 15 courses, so it is worth choosing carefully.

Split the choice into two questions. First, do you want to understand what is happening and talk to your GP about it, or do you want to change how you eat and move? Second, is there one symptom that dominates your days? If it is one symptom, take that course. If you are at the beginning and everything feels new, the Complete Menopause Guide brings every stage together, and the Complete Menopause Nutrition Course does the same for food.

When to see your GP about menopause

The NHS advises seeing a GP if menopausal symptoms are bothering you, if you have symptoms before age 45, or if you have any bleeding after your periods have stopped. Our menopause courses on HRT, mood and sleep are general education written from NHS and NICE information; decisions about treatment are for you and your GP.

Sleep, mind and relationships

For better nights, calmer thinking and easier conversations with the people closest to you.

For sleep, the Complete Better Sleep Course (Premium, 4 hr 30 min, £24.99) is the main course, with a two-week sleep diary, a sleep efficiency calculator and a 10-minute guided wind-down. For mind and relationships, choose by the moment that goes wrong: the thought, the anger, the argument or the boundary.

These courses are not therapy

The mind and relationship courses teach everyday self-help skills. If you feel unsafe in your relationship, or are struggling to cope or having thoughts of harming yourself, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or call Samaritans free on 116 123 at any time. In an emergency, call 999.

Later life and caring for someone

For staying strong and well in later life, and for the family members looking after an older relative.

If you are buying for yourself, start with nutrition or strength, depending on which feels weaker. If you are caring for a parent, the poor appetite course is the most practical place to start when meals are the daily worry. The carer stress course is the one carers most often put off and most often need.

Use this on any provider, not just us. A trustworthy health course should pass at least seven of these. Tick what the course page shows you.

Red flags: walk away if you see these

  • The course sells you supplements, shakes or tests as part of the lessons.
  • It promises a set amount of weight loss in a set time.
  • It claims to treat, reverse or cure a condition.
  • It tells you to stop medicines or ignore your GP's advice.
  • "Accredited" is used without naming the body, or the body only accredits paying course sellers.

Five ways people pick the wrong course

Most course regret comes from one of these. A minute spent checking saves you buying twice.

  1. Buying for a goal you don't have yetA weaning course bought at 20 weeks pregnant often goes unopened until the baby is five months old, by which time you have new questions. Buy for the stage you are in now.
  2. Starting with the biggest courseA Premium course is great value when you want the whole area. If your problem is narrow, a Focused course gets you to the answer faster and you are more likely to finish it.
  3. Choosing by topic name, not by problem"Menopause" covers 15 courses. "I can't sleep because of night sweats" points to one. Write your problem in a sentence first, then match it.
  4. Expecting a course to replace careNo education course can diagnose a symptom or adjust a medicine. Each course page lists what to check with a health professional first; read that before you buy.
  5. Buying a career course for a personal goalA 10-week accredited course is the right choice if you want to work in nutrition. For your own eating, it is more cost and theory than you need.

What you get with every course

Questions people ask

Are online nutrition courses worth it?

They are worth it when you want structure and follow-through rather than a single fact. Free NHS pages give you the guidance; a good course puts it in order, applies it to your week and gives you tools to track the change. If you only need one answer, the free pages are enough.

Which nutrition course is best for beginners?

Understanding the Eatwell Guide is the best first course for most adults. It takes about an hour, costs £9.99 and covers the UK's official healthy eating model with a balanced plate, hand portions and a 7-day tracker.

Do I need any background knowledge?

No. Every course is written in plain English for adults with no training in nutrition or health. If you can read a food label, you can follow any course on the site.

Will a MyNutriCare certificate let me work as a nutritionist?

No. The certificate shows you completed a general education course. To work in nutrition in the UK, look for programmes accredited by the Association for Nutrition; to work as a dietitian, you need an HCPC-approved degree.

How long does a course take?

Foundation courses take about an hour, Focused courses about two hours and Premium courses about four to five hours. You can stop and start whenever you like, and your place and tool entries are saved.

I'm pregnant. Should I buy the complete course or the smaller ones?

If you want every trimester covered, the Complete Pregnancy Nutrition Course at £24.99 costs less than buying three Focused courses. If one question dominates, such as which foods are safe, the Pregnancy Food Safety course at £12.99 may be all you need.

Can I get a refund if I choose the wrong course?

Yes, in most cases. You can have a full refund within 14 days of purchase if you have completed less than 20% of the course and no certificate has been issued. The refund policy has the details. You can browse every course and guide on the My Nutri Care home page.
